How to Use Your Point and Shoot Camera
A Convenient Four-Week Telecourse

designed and facilitated by Sheila Finkelstein

Julie Gabrielli photo with testimonial for Point and Shoot Photo Courses"Sheila's gentle teaching opened up my inner eye in a way it had never been before. Even though I work in a visual field (as an architect), I rarely (if ever) gave myself the gift of simply looking for its own sake at the simple details of my daily family life. Once I started, it was like the floodgates had been opened.

Inspired by a brief instruction from Sheila on how to play with the camera's shutter speed and light settings, I started taking photos of my young son in his darkened room while he slept. Not only are they precious records of a rare resting and vulnerable state, some of them turned out to be surprisingly successful compositions.

Another suggestion of Sheila's was to "take my camera for a walk," and being spring, there was lots to see and revel in. My son delighted in coming along, picking flowers and taking over the camera at times.

These priceless moments
are the true gift of Sheila's class. The striking, authentic photographs are simply a by-product." - Julie Gabrielli

Marifran Korb photograph"Sheila Finkelstein imparted valuable technical knowledge. She also promoted confidence in me for the art of photography. I went from terrified to terrific.

Fervently I wish that I had had that training when my daughter was growing up. Now with Sheila’s support, I have my adult daughter’s respect as a photographer. My results bring pleasure to friends and family as I decorate my home with photos, stimulated by Sheila’s teaching.

What I love most is that I know I can create in the moment with my camera. It is liberating, exciting, and uplifting. Sheila’s creativity awakened my hidden Artist that I thought was non-existent. It lightens my day to perceive myself and the world from a never-ending fountain of fresh perspectives that I gained from Sheila’s classes."

My history with using the camera, beyond taking family photographs, goes back thirty-five years, when I taught art in an elementary school. During that time I took hundreds of photographs of students at work, as well as their art. Many of the photographs were published in national art education magazines.

* My love, passion and mission in life is opening people to see things in new and different ways resulting in their often having increased self-confidence and a greater joy in life.

* My passion for discovery will open you up to enjoying your children and their discoveries in ways you wouldn't believe.

* It is my intent to inspire and teach you to take pictures you and your children will be proud to look back on for years to come.

* You will be creating new openings in conversations with your children.

It is discovering the unexpected in things we see every day, sharing that and then experiencing the excitement of others when they enthusiastically begin to discover more in their lives and environments.

Personifying the apple slice is one example which led to our using fruits and vegetables during the course. It's a means for looking beyond what we ordinarily take for granted. It also opens up new conversations with your children.

In the Point and Shoot Photo Telecourse for Moms, you will find that minimal technical "knowledge" or expertise is required. The "connections for what's important to you occur as look through your viewfinder and focus on your subject.

With a few camera pointers, as well as basic design tips, you will be creating memorable photos. You will have the freedom to also take countless pictures and then recognize what works best for you.

Making a difference is one of the most significant aspects of my life. Should any piece of what's on this page resonate with you, I'd love to have you join with us in our upcoming four-week journey in the Point and Shoot Photo Course for Moms. I honor your creating and sharing your own joyful memories." - Sheila Finkelstein

TESTIMONIALS -
Participants in other Point and Shoot teleclass workshops have stated:

Jodi Flesberg Lilly photo“What a great course.  I felt lit up, energized and revitalized.  ‘Inspiration’ is the word that comes to me.  I saw the whole world anew.  I also loved seeing the world through other people’s eyes.

"I’ve been taking pictures since I was 9 years old.  In this course, for the first time, I started noticing how my energy shifted when I had a camera in my hand, how excited I got.  I was able to focus more.  The course assignments gave me a heightened awareness of how to look at things, noticing colors, textures and shapes I had never seen before.”

"I’ve learned so much about seeing. That’s Blaise with Feather
the reason I took the class to start with.  It was looking at your photos and your vision helped me to become a better photographer. Now I see differently. I will never see the same way again.  And that’s what I wanted when I started."
